Big Apple Moving has been moving households in and out of Westchester County since 1979. Most of what we run here is one of two jobs: a family leaving a New York City apartment for a house up the county, or a Westchester household moving within it. Both have the same defining feature – the New York end is predictable and the Westchester end is not.
How Much Do Westchester Movers Cost?
Most Westchester moves are billed by the hour, and the hourly rate is the same one we charge in the city: $130 to $160 for two movers and a truck, up to $270 to $330 for five. What changes in Westchester is how many hours the job takes, because houses hold more than apartments and driveways are less forgiving than a service elevator.
| Home size | Typical crew | Typical hours | Local Westchester move | NYC to Westchester |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Studio | 2 movers | 3 – 5 hours | $450 – $800 | $600 – $1,000 |
| 1 bedroom | 2-3 movers | 4 – 6 hours | $650 – $1,250 | $850 – $1,550 |
| 2 bedrooms | 3 movers | 6 – 8 hours | $1,100 – $1,900 | $1,400 – $2,400 |
| 3 bedrooms | 3-4 movers | 7 – 10 hours | $1,600 – $2,900 | $2,000 – $3,500 |
| 4+ bedrooms, house | 4-5 movers | 8 – 12 hours | $2,300 – $4,200 | $2,800 – $5,000 |
These are market-rate estimates, not guaranteed quotes. Your price is set after a survey of the inventory and the access at both ends.

Why the house rows are so much higher than the apartment rows. A four-bedroom house is not twice a two-bedroom apartment, it is closer to four times. Basements, attics, garages, garden furniture and a decade of accumulated storage that a New York apartment never had room for. The single most common surprise on a Westchester job is the basement.
What actually moves the number. Whether a 26-foot truck can reach the door, and how far the carry is if it cannot. Stairs, both inside the house and up to it. The age of the property, since pre-war stairwells and doorways are the reason things have to be disassembled. And how much of the packing is finished before the crew arrives.
Full hourly rates by crew size, and what the clock does and does not cover, are on our hourly movers page. If you would rather have the number fixed before the day, see flat fee movers.
Westchester Moving Services
Local Moves Within Westchester
Between towns and villages inside the county. Short in distance and rarely quick, because two houses fifteen minutes apart can be very different jobs depending on the driveway. Billed hourly.
Moving From NYC to Westchester
The most common job we run in the county, usually a family trading an apartment for a house and usually timed around the school year. Straightforward at the city end, slower at the Westchester end. Book early for June through August.
Moving From Westchester to NYC
Downsizing, a job move, or a student heading into the city. The variable is always how much has accumulated in the basement and the attic that an apartment will not hold.
Interstate Moves From Westchester
Anything leaving New York State, priced as a fixed cost on inventory and distance rather than by the hour, with a written delivery window. See long-distance movers.
Westchester County Areas We Serve

We cover the whole county, from the Bronx line to Peekskill. Some of the towns below have their own page with local detail; the rest are served on the same rates and by the same crews.
The county is not one market. A move in southern Westchester behaves much like a city job – tight streets, older buildings, permit parking. North of White Plains the houses get bigger and the driveways get longer, and the crew size matters more than the mileage.

What Makes a Westchester Move Different
A Westchester job and a New York City job are priced the same way and run completely differently. In the city the variables are the elevator and the parking. Up here they are the driveway, the stairs, and whatever has been accumulating in the basement since the family moved in. Four things decide what the day actually costs, and all four are worth checking before you book.

What Is Included in Every Move
Licensed and Insured
Registered with the New York State Department of Transportation for moves within the state and holding an active USDOT number for interstate work, with cargo and liability coverage on every job.
Certificate of Insurance
Issued free to a building or an HOA that asks for one. Relevant for the condo and co-op buildings in White Plains, New Rochelle and Yonkers, which usually will not admit a crew without one.
Full Furniture Protection
Blankets, shrink wrap and tape on anything with a finish. Floor runners and door jamb padding at both ends, which matters more than usual in older houses with original floors.
Disassembly and Reassembly
Beds, tables, desks and shelving taken apart at pickup and put back together at delivery. No separate handyman fee.
A Written Estimate Before You Book
Crew size, hours and the rate in writing, after a survey. No verbal numbers.
Packing, Storage and Junk Removal
Available as add-ons or on their own. See packing services, moving and storage and junk removal.
