Moving Into New Jersey Crosses in the Free Direction
Every Hudson River crossing between New York and New Jersey is tolled in one direction only. The Port Authority collects entering New York. Nothing is collected entering New Jersey.
That means a move out of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx into Jersey City, Hoboken, Fort Lee or anywhere else in the state crosses the Holland Tunnel, the Lincoln Tunnel or the George Washington Bridge without paying a toll at all. The charge only applies coming back the other way.
It matters less than you would think for your final bill, because tolls and fuel are included in what we quote you regardless of direction. But it is worth knowing what you are actually paying for, and it is worth knowing that anyone who quotes you a separate line item for a westbound crossing is charging you for something that did not happen.
What does affect your move is timing rather than tolls. Peak hours on the crossings run 6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm on weekdays, and 11am to 9pm at weekends. A crew that starts at 8am on a Tuesday spends part of the morning in it. A crew that starts at 10am usually does not. When you are billed hourly, that is real money, so we will suggest a start time that works around it rather than through it.
Two Ways to Pay, Both Priced Before You Book
Hourly, rates start at $150 an hour. That is two movers and the truck, not two movers with the truck billed separately. A third mover starts at $195 an hour. There is no minimum number of hours — if the job takes two hours, you pay for two hours.
A binding estimate is the other route: one guaranteed price for the whole job, agreed in writing before anything is loaded. Stairs, a long carry from the truck to the door, an elevator reservation, a tight one-way street — all of it is priced into that number up front and itemised so you can see it. The figure you agree is the figure you pay.
You do not need a survey or a walkthrough to get a guaranteed price. An item list and a few details about both buildings is enough. If you would rather show us, we will do a video walkthrough or come out in person, but it is an option rather than a requirement.

Starting rates. Final pricing depends on access, distance and the size of your move. Durations are estimates based on a packed home with standard access. Add roughly an hour per flight of stairs where there is no lift, and an hour if the truck has to park more than twenty feet from the door.

We will quote both so you can see the difference. Small and simple usually favours hourly. Anything with stairs or a lot of furniture usually favours the guaranteed price.
Certificate of Insurance issued for both buildings. Tell us the management company and we will send it directly.

Three Things That Catch People Out
Parking is the hard part, not the stairs. In the denser towns — Hoboken, downtown Jersey City, parts of Newark — the difficulty on moving day is rarely the furniture. It is finding somewhere legal to put a truck within carrying distance of your door. Rules are set town by town rather than statewide. Hoboken requires temporary no-parking signs arranged through the city’s parking utility, and they need advance notice so the signs can go up before your date. Jersey City requires a permit for no-parking signage or meter bags. Some towns have no process at all. Get it moving as soon as you have a date, and check whether your block has street cleaning that day — a moving permit does not override it. Tell us the address when you book and we will tell you what your street needs and plan around it.
Buildings want paperwork before they want you. Waterfront towers in Jersey City and Hoboken, and most managed buildings across the state, require a Certificate of Insurance naming the building before a crew is allowed in. Ours is included. Most also require a booked freight elevator and loading dock slot, and the popular buildings fill up weeks ahead — particularly at the end of the month. Book the elevator the day you sign the lease, not the week you move.
Dates rarely line up. Your lease ends on the 30th and the new place is not ready until the 3rd. It happens constantly. Storage covers the gap and we handle both ends, so your belongings are collected once and delivered once rather than moved twice.

Two to three weeks is comfortable for most moves. End of month, and particularly the last weekend of the month, books up first. If your building requires a freight elevator reservation, book that as early as you can — it is more often the elevator than the movers that decides your date.
